First Flush Shizuoka Strong-Roasted Sencha

This is a special sencha known as “aracha-zukuri,” made from high-quality tea leaves harvested during the new tea season. It is also the tea that best represents Kaneka’s signature flavor, which has remained unchanged for 40 years.

Facing the Fire: Another Side of Sencha

Shizuoka sencha is known for its vibrant green color and balanced umami flavor. However, this “Strong-Fire Sencha” deliberately steps outside the bounds of conventional wisdom.

Roasted more intensely than standard sencha—enveloped in a rich, roasted aroma born from a special roasting technique honed through years of experience—the tea’s fresh, green character transforms into a deep roasted fragrance. The tea leaves’ natural sweetness and pleasant astringency are complemented by this distinctive roasted aroma, resulting in a full-bodied, complex flavor. When sipped, a clean, crisp aftertaste spreads across the palate.

Unlike premium sencha, which emphasizes umami, what sets high-heat sencha apart is its “light, refreshing mouthfeel.” Whether enjoyed between greasy meals, paired with fried foods or traditional Japanese sweets, or as one last cup at the end of the day, it glides smoothly down your throat without any astringency or heaviness getting in the way.

Brewing Guidelines:

Briefly pour boiling water (90–95°C) over it. To bring out the rich, toasty aroma, we recommend using a slightly higher temperature.
